PCPG will circulate a PDH certificate documenting registrant’s participation time, not to exceed 60 minutes, within 72 hours of the conclusion of the webinar.
Level: General
Who should attend: Professionals in earth and environmental science fields, academia, and professionals who manage investigation and remediation projects in near-shore environments and want to gain a better understanding of how sea level rise can impact site remedies, how regulatory agencies on the west coast are developing guidance that could potentially re-open approved and completed site remedies, and how to better prepare for similar initiatives that may occur for the east coast.
Webinar Overview: Sea level rise-induced groundwater rise has the potential to affect existing remedies and remedial plans for near-shore contaminated sites. Although surface inundation can be controlled with engineered structures, the impact of groundwater rise presents greater challenges. Some remedies are less resilient to sea level rise than others, and as such, creative adaptations and contingencies may be required. Regulatory agencies in California and Washington have developed guidance for vulnerability assessments and adaptation strategies that have the potential to change approved and completed site remedies. Case studies at multiple sites along the California coast will be presented to demonstrate how to incorporate sea level rise impacts into site conceptual models, identify potential future changes in groundwater flow conditions, evaluate remedy resilience and advise responsible parties on the technical and budgetary issues in light of highly uncertain future conditions.
About our presenter: Tracy Roth, P.G. is a Hydrogeologist with more than 20 years of experience performing quantitative hydrogeologic evaluations for site characterization, remediation projects, and water resource evaluations. She has been working on Sea Level Rise Vulnerability Assessments and Adaptation Planning for the past year in California, where the regulatory agencies have only begun to develop requirements for sea level rise evaluations.
